I have customized more guns than I could possibly remember for numerous clients over the past few years. Every one of them was transformed into a unique, hand crafted, one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Recently, I had a client come to me with a request that would be my biggest challenge in custom gun work to date. When he was a young boy he had both of his hands disfigured in a homemade explosives accident. He was left with only two fingers and a partial thumb on each hand.
He was an avid gun collector and shooter, but his handicap made shooting uncomfortable during any extended sessions. After meeting with him and having him show me where all the greatest points of discomfort were, I took his Glock G19 and began making modifications to the polymer frame.
I reduced the overall diameter of the frame grip area, undercut and polished the trigger guard, and beveled and polished the inside of the trigger guard to reduce drag from his trigger finger due to the angle that he had to use in his greatly modified grip configuration. I then removed the factory finger grooves on the front strap to allow him to place his fingers where they were more comfortable, instead of having the factory grip dictate where his fingers were placed. With the finishing touch of some MICRO stippling texture, the project was complete.

I had never been so nervous to return a piece of my work to its owner. He handled the gun for a few minutes and seemed pleased. I had passed the first true test of my custom framework skills! Several days later, my client called back to tell me how much he enjoyed shooting his gun since I added my custom work to it. He said he had not felt so much comfort in shooting in all his life. He was so satisfied with my work, he has since hired me to make the same modifications on three more of his Glock pistols.

I have taken great pride in all of the projects I have undertaken, but there was something really satisfying about seeing the happiness on this particular customers face as he handled the custom pieces I created for him.
